-Dr Sabyasachi Bal is a Thoracic Surgeon with sub specialty fellowship training in chest cancer surgery.

-His practice focuses on the management of all surgical conditions of the chest in adolescents and adults with special emphasis on cancers affecting the organs of the chest.

-Dr Bal is the Director of the department of Thoracic Surgery and Thoracic Surgical Oncology and is assisted by a surgical team with considerable surgical experience and expertise and supported by a team of dedicated surgical intensivists and pulmonologists, anaesthesiologists, paramedical personnel and physiotherapists.

-He is an alumnus of AIIMS, New Delhi and was, till 2005, an Additional Professor of Surgery and Consultant Thoracic Surgery and Chief of the Lung Cancer and other thoracic malignancies Clinic at his Alma mater, the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

-He is an active member of a large number of surgical associations societies in India, USA, UK and Japan and has numerous peer reviewed scientific publications and awards to his credit including the Norman Tanner Best Paper Award (Royal Society of Medicine, UK), the Japanese Surgical Society Award in 1996 & 1997, the Varoon Mahajan Fellowship of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA, the Escorts Raj Nanda Pulmonary Fellowship to Glen field Hospital, University of Leicester, UK and the Best Paper Award of the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology in 2002 and 2011.

-He is an invited Faculty for a large number of National and international teaching groups and was a Faculty at the First and Second Asian Masters Workshop in Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery at Shanghai under the auspices of Duke University, Duham USA and Shanghai University. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious fellowships and orations.

-Dr Bal is a former fellow of the internationally renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre at New York and a Senior Registrar at the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital, London.

-He has trained in Thoracic surgery in AIIMS, New Delhi and in the UK at the South West Regional Thoracic Surgery Unit at Bristol and at the Brompton Chest Hospital, London. He has been a clinical research fellow at University of Leicester, UK in advanced lung cancer surgery and in Lung Volume Reduction Surgery for Emphysema which he has pioneered in India.

-Dr Bal is also one of the pioneers in diagnostic and therapeutic thoracoscopic procedures in India and today, the department has the largest number of VATS lung resections in India. He has now added Robotic Thoracic Surgery to his armamentarium.

Patient care should be individualized based on the patient’s level of activity, age, diagnosis and expectations. Dr. Bal applies this approach to his practice daily. He considers all treatment options, both surgical and nonsurgical, when caring for his patients. Dr. Bal believes in treating his patients as he would members of his family; a philosophy etched into his practice by his mentors from residency. He also ensures that all patients have access to a team of experts from many different fields including specialists from surgery, anesthesiology, pulmonary medicine, critical care, ultramodern radiology, medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology.

All treatment decisions are taken in a multidisciplinary board. He is also the only one in India to incorporate a full time dedicated physiotherapy service into his patient care plan.
